When She Comes to You in Failure, Receive Her in Grace

“To err is human”, so why do we give our kids so much grief when they make a mistake? For most of us, admitting to a mistake is an experience covered in hurt, embarrassment, and shame due to childhood experience.

As parents, we can offer a different response when accidents happen. We already know that parents are a child’s most impactful influencers in their early development. They do as we do and say as we say. So let your response to your own mistakes, as well as hers, be exemplary.

Next time an accident happens, recognize it for the frustrating event that is, ask for forgiveness, show some self-compassion, and move on. We are not our mistakes or the sum of our shame—we are beloved children of God worthy of compassion!
