When Real Life Doesn’t Fit a Cause-and-Effect Explanation

The human tendency to explain things in a cause-and-effect fashion can lead to great scientific discoveries but at times it can also cause us to miss God’s bigger picture.

We get a sense of closure when a root cause is offered, especially when explaining life’s difficulties, like illness or disability. In John 9, Jesus challenged the religious teachers when they assumed a man’s blindness was a result of his parents’ disobedience to God.

Jesus flipped the script on them explaining that maybe God had something in mind for that man and the moment of healing was really so people could see God’s Kingdom. If your daughter tends to require cut and dry explanation, flip the script of her thinking. Lead her to see what God might be doing in light of His Kingdom on earth.
