What Giving Up Something at Lent Teaches Us About Christ

We’re a few weeks into Lent now… how’s it going? Much like New Years resolutions, are your family’s Lenten sacrificial promises of extra prayer, fasting, and almsgiving starting to fall to the wayside?

While making a sacrifice is a meaningful way to reflect on the atonement, what we give up isn’t meant to sanctify us—it’s how we use our sacrifice to honor God.

Claim that new time for Scripture journaling or a prayer walk with your daughter—you’ll soon see that it’s how we use our sacrifice to glorify Him that makes all the difference. Romans 12:1 guides us: “…to offer [our] bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is [our] true and proper worship.” With this mindset we can live in a state of holy sacrifice every day.
