Understanding Patriotism: America’s History is Human History

Our country was founded by those with great trust in God. Leaving home for a new land full of promise, America became a place of opportunity for all.

Teaching our girls patriotism goes far beyond memorizing the Pledge or waving small flags at holiday parades. Our American history is a human history. One full of success and strife, triumphs and mistakes, tremendous love and tremendous cruelty. To love our great nation is to know its history, believe in its goodness, and pray for its future.

Talk about what your daughter is learning about American history, and help her identify the ways that God has moved here. Honor those who sacrifice for our freedom, pray for our leaders, and sing the words of a familiar tune: “God bless America, land that I love!”
