How Does ‘Right to Me’ Lead to Moral Destruction?

“I just don’t see why we can’t watch” … “But Kara’s parents let her listen to”… “It’s not that big of a deal, killing in a video game isn’t real life.” Had these conversations recently? Then you know well the struggle of living Biblically versus living culturally.

The book of Judges repeatedly echoes “And everyone did what was right in their own eyes.” This moral relativism permeates every cultural layer with the notion that “right to me” is the compass to navigate life. Living in the gray proves a problematic rule to see the world and ourselves.

If your girl constantly pushes against Biblical values, offer her some context by reading and discussing the Book of Judges. Ask revealing questions after each refrain like, “How did that work out for them?” helping her to see how “right to me” leads to moral destruction.
