Helping Your Daughter Cope with Stress

Stress. It’s a human emotion we ALL feel throughout life. I recently heard an acronym that I think perfectly captures the essence of stress—Someone Trying to Repair Every Situation Solo. S-T-R-E-S-S. Kind of perfect, isn’t it?

While it’s easy for us as parents to recognize stress in our own lives, it’s important to see how your daughter might be experiencing stress. Is she falling into the trap of trying to repair every situation solo, or does she know she can turn to others for help?

The simplest way to start conditioning your daughter to recognize her own human limitations is to raise her in a home full of prayer. Leaning on God in times of stress is the first thing any spiritually healthy person turns to. Help her to know where her strength comes from. As the Psalms so beautifully say, “My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
