Curing the Summertime Plague of Childhood: Boredom

It’s the summertime and weekend anthem of kids everywhere: Mooooom, I’m boooooored!” Oh to be young and bored, right?!

Children are hardwired for play, and gifted with seemingly limitless creativity and imagination. Today’s kids, though, are strapped with the constant desire for entertainment. Without devices keeping them occupied, many kids don’t know how to be happy. In short: they’re over-stimulated and over-entertained.

Evaluate how your family regularly spends its free time. Does your daughter see her parents plopped on a couch, phone in hand, half-watching TV every night? Young girls are easily influenced by the actions of those around her. Make an effort to get outside, get crafty, try a new recipe together—the list goes on and on! Show her that feeling bored is just an opportunity to flex her God-given creative muscles and discover something new!
