Can Comparison Actually Be Good for Your Daughter?

Is comparison really the thief of joy? So many have clung to these poignant words penned by Theodore Roosevelt—but are they always true?

Girls today struggle with comparison in an unhealthy and unproductive way. Just think about how their body image is manipulated by comparing themselves to Instagram models peddling detox teas. They are robbed of their self-worth and yes, their joy, in these instances of comparison.

But what if I said that comparison can be a fuel that encourages us to do better, to be better? Consider how surrounding yourself with Godly people can inspire you to adopt a holier way of life. Remind your daughter: we aren’t called to live in a constant state of toxic comparison, but we are called to be the very best versions of ourselves—which can be positively influenced by those around us.
