Break the Stigma of Mental Health Shame

Any family who’s struggled with mental health challenges knows the stigma of shame. Sadly, our culture, while beginning to recognize the mental health crises happening, doesn’t quite know how to respond in grace. But God does.

In the New Testament, Mary Magdalene knew shame closely. During that time, anyone who struggled with mental health was quickly marginalized and shunned. But Jesus didn’t reject her—in fact, Jesus offered her exhausted mind shalom—healing peace.

If a member of your family is going through mental illness, don’t despair. Shame isn’t coming from the Lord—rather from the Enemy. As you seek help and counseling, know that God’s heart desires complete wellness for your family. Pray against shame creeping in and for shalom to heal along the way.
