Reducing Her Anxiety through Service

The most recent Youth Volunteering and Civic Engagement Survey found that 55% of teenagers participated in volunteer activities contributing 1.3 billion hours of service nationwide. Quite impressive, especially when we note that youth volunteer contributions were nearly double that of the reported 29% of adult volunteer participation.

The same study found the average person spends an average of 52 hours per year volunteering their time. For a total of one week a year, the average American is shifting focus away from themselves and instead focusing on bettering the world.

As feelings of isolation and fear continue to mount among young girls, let’s keep in mind the powerful altruistic force that is civic engagement. Volunteering locally, serving globally—they’re all proven ways to reduce anxiety and promote a sense of community.
