When your girl bounds into the kitchen every morning, you feed her a healthy breakfast. When she wants to watch an evening movie, you check to make sure schoolwork is done before that. As a connected parent, you understand that for her good, things need to go in a certain order. It’s good to keep the first things—well, first!
Jesus had a similar way. In Matthew, he said the Lord must be first in the hearts of His people—not second, not eleventh, first.
When you remind your girl that breakfast is the most important meal of the day or to check her math before turning on a movie, call her to the truth of Scripture. Whether it’s prayer or reading God’s Word, lead her in a way of God-first living.
Matthew 6:33, Matthew 22:37-38
