For girls seeking validation, labels are everything. Once upon a time, children classified themselves as “popular”, “nerdy” or “jock”. Today, the identity of our youth is being recognized on a much deeper, much more fundamental level.
For some, the process of self-discovery leads them away from the truth of their creation and into a spiral of doubt and confusion. When gender terms suddenly “fit” the way she feels, a girl can rest her identity in that of a label, defining herself in a way that conforms to the mold created by our culture.
The most important reminder you can offer your girl is that our ultimate identifier is “child of God”. Colossians 3:12 reminds us that we are chosen, holy, and dearly loved—let those “labels” reign supreme over all the rest.
