“You do you.” Ever heard this as a last word in disagreements among friends? This popular phrase holds the release for many people to disengage with church community life. But is “you do you” Biblical? 

Our culture tells us that convenience and personal happiness are the foundations to liberate our independent selves. So, when you don’t like people, just break ties and go on your own. But what about the loss of a family member, illness, unemployment, or wayward teenager? In these trying times, wouldn’t it be better to “let’s do us”?  

Colossians 2:7 reminds us to “let our roots grow down deep.” As you lead in your home, commit your family to weave deep roots into church community with a closeness that will commit back to you when life gets hard.
