Athletes know that over time our bodies can acclimate to tough training. But what about our hearts?
There’s a term psychologists use to describe this phenomenon—it’s called the “hedonic treadmill.” Basically, the more happiness-inducing things we have, the more we crave. When we get the thing we wanted—money, love, material things—we move right along to dreaming about the next want.
It’s a hard cycle to break. But you know who can? Jesus. The goodness of God is something that will not dull, because He is the source of all good things. Show your girl that if you place your faith in Him, you will find joy. Even when we don’t ‘feel happy’, that joy sustains us, allowing us to continue running the race.
