Why Crushing on Someone ISN’T the Mark of a Godly Girl

Think back to the first person who turned your eye. Not just as friends, but as “more than friends”. Our culture describes these feelings as a “crush”.

Let’s say a girl has a crush on a guy; so she thinks, sometimes obsesses, over the thought of him. She doesn’t take the time to get to know him as the whole person – his spiritual gifts, his skills, his faults. Crushing on someone gives us rose-colored glasses, rather than an accurate view of that person.

Three times in Song of Songs, King Solomon admonishes “do not awaken love until the time is right.” In a world that cheapens love down to the drive-thru express lane for instant gratification, teach your daughter to be a Wise Solomon and refrain from the rush-to-crush mentality.
