Why Asking “How Did You See God at Work Today?” Matters

As our kids go back to school, whether in-person or remotely, time spent around the dinner table together becomes extra important. But don’t fall into the “how was your day?” trap!

Researchers have found that we humans often form our opinion of the day as a whole using something called the “peak-end rule”. Basically, whatever the biggest, most memorable moment, good or bad, completely decides how we feel about the day.

Rather than ask “how was your day” try “How did you see God at work today?” This resets the automatic inclination to resort to the “peak-end rule” and refocuses our eyes on finding God’s goodness in our lives, which ultimately leads to happier, more joy-filled family conversations.
