Think back to the last time your girl came to you devastated, broken over a mean-spirited joke about her appearance. Or maybe it was the rejection from one she called a friend. Your girl’s heart is fragile in these moments, and you as a parent can feel at a loss for words.
Henry Nouwen, the late theologian, wrote in Bread for the Journey that the world only knows to manipulate, control, and slowly destroy hearts. When we feel hurt, offended, or rejected remember, “These feelings are not telling me the truth about myself.”
In her brokenness, remind your girl the Scriptural truths about her: she is Chosen, she is Beloved, and she is free in the promises of Christ.
