When Tempted to Quick Reply, Teach Her to Practice the Pause

Being “plugged in” all the time means we often feel the need to reply right away… especially when the person on the other end of the message can see those three little dots appear as we type. But this sense of urgency, especially in moments of stress or frustration, could result in some less-than-Godly, foot-in-mouth mistakes.

In his letter to the early Christians, James instructs believers to be “quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.”

So the next time your daughter is trapped in a space of frantic communication, remind her to pause, take a breath, and eliminate the desire to immediately reply off the cuff. There is Godliness in taking the time to talk, pray, and work through moments of stress!

James 1:19, NIV
