When Her Listening has Selfish Motives

Think about the last time you discovered your girl hadn’t finished her assigned chores. Maybe she was told to keep laundry going, but you found that only her laundry was clean, folded, and put away. What you asked of her and what she heard were two entirely different things.

See, your girl listened through a “what’s-in-it-for-me” brain NOT a “what’s-truly-being-communicated” brain. She’s not alone—many adults tend to listen this way as well!

Invite her back into the laundry room and walk her through the original conversation. She may not even be aware that she was listening selfishly. Remind her that true Godliness means approaching every task with a heart to serve in excellence—not just doing things that pursue her own interests. Then help her load the towels and start the wash!
