So many decisions made in today’s culture are seemingly fueled by one question: “What’s in it for me?” Sure, there is great value teaching our girls to know their value so as not to be taken advantage of by others. But in highlighting personal gain in every decision we make, might we be missing out on the bigger picture? Instead of selfishly examining a situation, consider asking: “What’s in it for Him?”
We are called to serve the Lord our God in all that we say and do. That means while something might be personally-satisfying, it’s not necessarily kingdom-serving. Service to others is a great way to instill selflessness to your girl.
The soup kitchen is probably not a place she wants to be on a Friday night. But rather than focusing on what she’s missing out on, like time with friends, remind her to ask “What’s in it for Him?” We are all here on Earth for His glory, and what an honor that is.
