What if a “True Friend” Replaced a “Best Friend Forever”

Girlhood has been known to come with the pressure of labeling a “BFF,” or Best Friend Forever. Girls have a strong longing for belonging, so this age-old figure of speech comes from an authentic place. But what if it’s not possible—or NOT REAL?

The Bible likens true friendship to Godly love. A true friend has the space to mess up and ask forgiveness—to rupture and repair—which makes your girl’s bond with her friend stronger and more likely to last for decades, or only for a season as the Lord leads.

The BFF label can set your girl up for failure—she honestly doesn’t have the capacity to be completely faithful, unwavering, and perfect in friendship. In Godly girls, a true friend is far more precious than a best friend forever.

1 Corinthians 13:4-6, Proverbs 27:17
