Every parent knows the feeling of bursting their girl’s bubble when she asks to eat out. “We have food at home” delivers the devastating blow to her instant gratification ache. While yes, it would be easier to run the minivan to the drive-thru, the deeper issue here is two-folder: stewarding the family resources that the Lord has provided and choosing to replace the immediate want for the more responsible need.
Teach your girl the value of self-control and delayed gratification. Model for her a consistent life of well-stewarded resources in a responsible mindset. Her fleshly desires tempt in the short term, but her well-disciplined heart will grow to know the Lord’s steadfastness. She may not like it today, but she will appreciate your example decades down the road.
James 1:14
