Girls often have the tendency to seek out perfection. Striving for flawlessness can show itself in a multitude of ways that are all inherently good. She might find herself studying hard to earn the highest grade. Or maybe she’s devoting hours of her time to extracurriculars that look great on a college application. These are wonderful! But might your girl be experiencing self-induced burnout in the seeking of excellence?
It’s especially common for Christian girls to experience a yearning for perfection. In the calling to be Godly, girls can get caught up in the idea of flawlessness. But does your daughter know that only God is perfect? That we, as humans, are called to be like Jesus, not be Him?
Examine how your daughter handles the stress in her life. Is she excelling in her daily tasks or is she burning out? Reassure her in the good that she is doing, and prayerfully consider whether or not you, as her parent, might be adding to the immense pressure that she is feeling to be perfect.
