How to Help Your Girl Grieve a Pet’s Passing Biblically

“Mom, I miss our kitty. Do you think she’s looking down on us from heaven?” Oh parents, we see you in this moment! Kids are fond of their pets, and when the pet dies, it can bring up big emotions and questions for little ones. How do you nurture your girl through this moment of grief?

Your pet’s passing is likely your girl’s first close loss to process. Understandably, she feels intense grief. Recognize your girl’s grief legitimately. And anchor on what Scripture IS clear about—after death, heaven is a real place…for those who bear the image of God. So we thank God for our pets, the privilege to care for them, and the memories they gave us during their lives. And laying a pet to rest, is just that—their final rest.

John 3:16, 1 John 3:2
