Have you recently noticed your girl choosing her words differently? Maybe she substitutes “I’m getting help from my friends” for “I cheated on my test”. These subtle shifts in how your girl chooses to speak can be a sign of a deeper heart problem.
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, “Let your ‘yes’ be ‘yes’ and your ‘no’ be ‘no’.” At the time, Jewish religious leaders would often speak one way and live another. The crux was to speak simply. Could this be similar to the shift in your girl?
Set aside time to chat with her about how our speech reveals tension in the heart. Discuss Jesus’ words with her and offer a gentle challenge for her to evaluate how choosing words either acknowledges her inner sin or skirts responsibility for her sin.
