Having Compassion to Learn What It’s Like In Her Shoes

It can be tempting to take the “ugh, kids these days” stance toward your girl’s childishness when she swoons over a popular celebrity or tries her hand at the latest trendy phrase, but have you stopped to consider what it’s like to walk in your girl’s shoes?

Certain timebound issues like advances in technology, a tsunami of information, instantly changing trends, and pressure make your girl’s childhood and adolescent experience far different than your own. Remember the first time you navigated makeup for the first time? Or perhaps found out you were the subject of malicious gossip as a teenager?

Technology and instant sharing make your girl’s mortified moments more intense than those were for you at her age. God has patient compassion for us, so we must extend the same for our girls.
