Communicate Her Identity to Support Her Identity in Christ

“I Feel” statements are a common exercise in counseling. This exercise forces you to habitualize rephrasing your sentences to begin with the words “I Feel”. This exercise can also have a tremendous impact on your daughter’s own self-worth.

Have you ever heard your girl say things like “I’m worthless” or “I’m dumb”? Next time your daughter is making generalizations about herself using an “I am” statement, ask her to rephrase it using “I feel”.

Feelings are temporary, but “being” is constant. So while she may feel worthless in this moment, God tells her she is beloved. Genesis 16:13 tells us that God sees us. He sees our struggles and our emotions and He holds us lovingly in the palm of His hand. Can’t you feel it?
