At some point in their daughter’s upbringing, every parent becomes the reject. When she’s young it’s “Not you daddy, mommy has to read to me.” When she’s older it’s “ugh, I’ll just go ask dad instead”. Truth be told, being the reject can hurt. Worse yet, seeing your daughter get rejected—by friends, by a boy, by the team—somehow that cuts twice as deep.
Do you know who else knows the sting of rejection? The Cornerstone. “The stone the builders have rejected has become the cornerstone.” The words of Psalm 118:22 bring comfort to those who feel cast aside.
As you and your daughter navigate the difficult emotions life can bring, keep in mind the empathetic love of the Father. With this framing, we know that He is an ever present comfort, even when it might not feel that way.
