Through the adolescent years, your girl might have some creative ways to describe her relationships—especially with the opposite sex. Terms like “hanging out” and “more-than-friends” to “dating” might pepper her vernacular. But have you heard this one yet—“situationship”? “Situationship” refers to a casual attraction between a boy and girl but is temporarily rooted with little commitment. Why is this an issue?
Christians view relationship as a commitment which, if culminating in marriage, is a lifelong covenant. While your girl likely isn’t thinking this long-term, her teen years are a training ground for viewing covenantal commitment in a Godly way rather than a worldly way.
So, her words about commitment matter in this case! Keep open conversations with your girl during her dating years to ensure she views relationships in wisdom and holiness.
