When Small Inconveniences Spark Overly Emotional Reactions

When frustrated, do you ever find that you take on an “of course” mindset? For example, you’re already running late for work and your daughter is having a meltdown over her hair. In frustration you yell “of course this is happening, of course you’re going to make us late!”

This “of course” mindset is natural, an auto-pilot response that puts you in the victim’s seat. But this mindless frustration is creating a blaming, disconnected environment for your girl. Worse yet, it’s modeling for her that small inconveniences are reason for overly-emotional reactions.

We know God calls us to love—with patience and kindness, not anger and self-seeking. You have the ability to model for your girl how small instances of frustration can actually be moments of opportunity for Christ-like love.
