In the early 1980s researchers found that children living in poverty heard 30 million fewer words by the age of three than those from middle-class families.
In more recent years, the study’s true accuracy has been taken into question, so while it may not actually be a 30-million word gap, the concept still remains an interesting one: children who are exposed to more words early in childhood create a firm educational foundation.
As a mother and former teacher, I find this fascinating, but as a Christian, I find it even more compelling. Imagine how impactful it is for a child to actually hear Scripture in her life. I encourage you to read your Bible aloud today and invest in your daughter’s educational and spiritual foundation!
