Why “The Talk” Goes on One Topic at a Time

Many parents refer to uncomfortable conversations surrounding important topics as “The Talk” or “The Discussion”. One discussion, maybe supported by some literature in the teen’s hands placed by a parent’s sweaty palms, perforated by lots of “ums”. These can be awkward and, frankly, unfruitful for both parties.

What if “The Talk” wasn’t relegated to one occasion but ongoing? On topics of relationships, intimacy, self-harm, injustice, even money management, the one-time approach falls short. As you seek the Lord’s wisdom to lead your girl to live out her faith well, take the ongoing approach, keeping the conversation doors open so that whatever topic she has on her mind can freely come to you as the parent without shame or the “ums”. God will use these teaching opportunities as you go through your daily life to glorify Himself in her journey.
