Avoid the Lecture Pattern through Christ-Like Questioning

How often do you find yourself lecturing your daughter? Whatever the cause of your frustration, remember this: lecturing your girl isn’t going to get your point across.

Experts agree that lecturing just doesn’t work. Because our kids’ brains are smaller than our adult ones, the longer you go on and on, the less they’re able to listen and comprehend. In fact, your daughter’s young brain can really only retain 30 seconds of information at a time.

Jesus wasn’t known for lecturing His followers on their wrongdoings. But do you know how often He asked them questions? All…the…time! Look to Matthew’s gospel for an example of this. Jesus asks “Who do you say that I am?” Queue conversation and comprehension.

So stop lecturing, and start asking…and then listen.
